    Does signing your rights over for your kid get u in more trouble even if the other parent drops child support also

    There is a myth that a parent can just sign over their rights. It is only a myth.

    Only a court can terminate rights and courts are very reluctant to do so. Also a parent may not be able drop child support. If the parent gets public assistance, the state will want to be at least partially reimbursed.

    So, if you think you will be able to get out of paying support think again.

    If court ordered, you must pay child support or the amount just grows as arrears.

    You can not sign over rights to a child, ( you can only for adoption)

    So just get child support set correctly and pay it.

    Why don't you just place this child for adoption? Think about this a minute - the other parent doesn't support the child, and your main concern if you don't support the child either is whether you will "get in trouble?" Is anyone concerned about where the child is going to live, what they are going to eat, or the fact that the kid apparently has two deadbeat parents?
