Shadow people, a family thing
So my grandpa has seen shadow people for years. They come to him once in a while in a group, all around his bed. He's learnt that when they visit like this, it's a heads up that someone close to him is about to die, some very unexpected. I have always felt like I'm being watched and as a child was terrified beyond normal, unable to sleep all night with my eyes trained on my door. Even as an adult I don't like being alone at night. I once saw a shadow being while praying aloud when I was 20. I felt watched, whipped around and there it was. It took a startled, protective stance then sprinted down the hall. Now I think I have one in my current home. I can't find a lot online that fits our experiences. Are our particular experiences rare or the norm for this? If I do have one in my home, do I have to worry about my dog? She sort of alerted me to it and I've been having dreams the house is haunted and the ghost is taunting her when she's alone. She's been damaging the house when she's alone and more distraught than usual. If so, what do I do? Is this sensitivity or ability to see/sense them genetic? Have anything to do with us being native?

No, it's not a genetic issue, as it's not really an ability you yourself hold. It often is family related thought. Spirits will work themselves through a family line as long as they can... generations many times. Your experiences are neither rare or the norm. It's just not something many people talk about therefor it appears to not happen much.
Regardless of the family they have attached themselves to, it is not something you have to live with.
Does your family practice any particular religion?

Actually no, we don't practice any particular religion. My grandpa and I are both spiritually open though. I've dabbled in just about everything from Pentecostalism to Wicca/paganism to Buddhism. And have a university education in religious studies. Has this made me vulnerable somehow? Also, what's the difference between a shadow being and a demon? Because when I saw mine, I was deep in prayer and it scared me so bad, I chased after it, shouting at it in tongues (when I was Pentecostal). At the time I thought it was a demon because it seemed scared when I turned my prayer on it but now I think it wasn't because I feel like a demon would have proven to be a bigger problem. I need to do something though. They scare me. I don't have my grandpa's backbone. He's not bothered by their presence at all and even talks to them casually. But I can't be home alone even during the day anymore with out that creep-crawling, being watched feeling.

I should also mention that last night, I woke up out of nowhere terrified that something was strangling me. But I only have a flash of memory of this today. It could have been a dream, I could've worked myself up with my research lately. But this HAS happened to me once before, shortly after I saw the one while praying. A few days later I woke up feeling like their was something on my chest and I couldn't breathe until I managed to get my arm up to knock on the wall to alert someone in the house, then it immediately stopped. I've moved a few times over the years since then, and it feels like everywhere I go, I'm dealing with them.

Keep in mind that the Bible mentions spirits that are both stronger and more wicked than others. Just as people are unique personalities, so are demons. Don't expect them to react the same. There is no difference between a demon and a shadow spirit... it's just a different type of physcial manifestation. They can appear how they want... remember they can appear as angels of light.
And yes, dabbling in many different religions CAN make you vulnerable to demonic attack because many different religions are founded upon demonic doctrine. In fact, biblically speaking every religion that is founded on something other than Jesus Christ is a demonic doctrine.

It is by the authority given to a born again believer... and really for those that are willing to allow God into their lives. God doesn't run a charity hospital, and if He cleans up spiritual messes, He expects lives to be changed for Him. The bible warns more than once that a spirit can return if it comes back to where it was removed from and it is empty (spiritualy void of the Holy Spirit).
It's not a go to church or suffer threat... but that spiritual cleansing is met on both ends... one where God extends down and does a work for and through us, and us back up to him allowing ourselves to be changed by His grace and mercy. Surely you do understand some of that if you "dabbled" in pentecostalsim.

I just found Christianity much to rigid a belief system and yes, having been Pentecostal, I "get" what you're saying but surely it's not so cut and dry. Believe or deal with it. I don't buy into such a narrow spirituality. Historically speaking, Christianity is a newer religion. Yet it's the be all end all of western society. There has to exist a wider scope or perspective on these matters...

Being that you see Christianity as a "newer" religion... you clearly don't understand a drop of it, and it also becomes clear why you left it. Good luck with your shadows.

It is a newer religion historically speaking. Many others that exist today predate it. Not to mention Christianity has stolen many of its important dates and traditions from other faiths, to make it more palatable to the masses and easier to convert over too. And modern day christianity as we know it, has morphed and changed so much since its inception, yknow, what with the whole schism into roman catholicism and eastern orthodoxy followed hundreds of years later by the reformation of the catholic branch again, producing a little offshoot called protestantism. And let us not digress too far and call into account the witch trials and crusades which claimed thousands upon thousands on innocent lives... there's got to be some bad energy for the believer there... Clearly you don't understand history or the evolution of religion, which brings your so called "expertise" into question. I don't doubt that using the name of Jesus as a believer could turn the tide when it comes to shadow people. Just like I don't doubt that using the name of Krishna as a Hindu, burning sage and drumming as an aboriginal or calling on the goddess as a Wiccan would also help. I'm sure it's more about having faith, eliminating fearful energy, banishing negative energy/entities and infusing a place in light and positive energy, more than going at this in specifically a Judeo-Christian way.
My simple Google search yielded better and more thorough advice. But thanks for playing.
Are there any real experts on here with any insight?
