Tenants rights in a pvt house, ny
I live in a pvt house, month to month basis. Landlord doesn't do any repairs. My bathroom needs to be gutted. He said he needs to increase the rent. I have given him two increases since living here. Every time I ask him to make repairs, he asks for an increase. With each increase, I sent a letter with said repairs that needs to be fixed. I told him that I will not give him another increase until the repairs are done.

What is the rate of increase should I give? The first was a 100 dollars increase the second was 50 dollars. Any advice??

You are going to make this mistake a third time, giving him more rent in exchange for nothing? You get the repairs done and THEN talk about more. And asking us how much is meaningless, because we don't know the market rents around your area, how much you are paying, and what condition the house is in. And if it's in unsafe and unhealthy condition, you give the rent to a lawyer to hold in escrow while you leave a paper trail about everything.
