How to increase water column pressure into you gas meter
The pressure in most residences after the gas meter is 5-7 w.c. (inches of water column) or 0.18 PSI to 0.25 PSI . My problem is that the gas won't gauarantee me more than 4 Wc and I want to put in a gas generator that requirtes 5-7 . What must be down to achieve this and who must I hire to do this. Does the gas company ghave to enlarge the pipe coming into the meter.?. I'd like to know what my options are. I'm getting tired of being without powere or worrying about flooding every time the power goes out

Pipe size has nothing yo to with pressure. If the gas company can only supply so much pressure, you will find it hard to do anything.

I've never heard of such low pressure to supply natural (or propane) gas to a home.

Typical supply pressure is 0.5 PSI, or about 14"WC (natural gas) and 11"WC for propane gas which should be more than adequate even if you are running all gas appliances at the same time (as long as system is sized properly).

I'd talk to your gas company again... something isn't right? I've noticed that I can get different answers from different people at the gas company, so speak to one of the supervisors, or better yet, get a gas pressure gauge that reads in 1/10th pound increments and take a pressure reading yourself!
