Is it against the law to trick someone in to signing something that would otherwise not be signed if that person knew what he was actually signing.

Example: telling a person you are signing a document as a witness, but in fact giving consent to something entirely different

Canadian law

What precisely do you really thing would be wrong with this?

I think it is called fraud in Canada or any place else for that matter.

If lets say, I am told a friend needs a witness' signature for selling their house, and that he would like me to sign the document but that document is in fact a form to consent that I am not allowed anywhere near children (thus not knowing the actual content of that form.)

Example: Signing for consent that you put your child up for adoption without knowing, you're told that it's for other reasons

I don't know the legality of it all and I'm sure it's wrong but I have to ask... why would you sign something without reading it over... or at least glancing at it to see what it is that you're signing?

Have you ever bought a product and got a promped of terms of service? You never actually red those have you? Similar situation.

Thinking you're doing someone a favor, but in fact turn out not being true

All I want to know is if that's against the law or not.

True... I never actually read them all the way through but I do look them over to see that I'm signing what I'm supposed to be signing.

I think we will let our legal experts get involved with this, because you are not giving us enough information to give you a complete determination on this, and quite frankly I find you evasive and not truthful.
