    My potable generator 4000 max starting watts 3200 running watts has two outlets offering 120 volt 20 amps and one outlet at 120volt 25 amp for power outage I would like to connect a line from the generator directly (after shutting of the 15 amp breaker ) to the heater my concern is that the 120 volt 20amp might damage the heating unit I myself as a younger man I'm now 72 and very active worked in electrical part time week ends we have recently experience several outages here in brick nj and would like to have heat my daughter and grandchildren are living with me temporarily till there home is fit for there return thank you ralph spagnola

    If your question is whether a generator that has outlets rated at 120 volts 20 amps can be used to power a device (heater in this case) that draws 15 amps at 120 volts, the answer is yes. The generator outlet is designed to work with appliances that draw up to20 amps; this does not mean that the appliance must actually draw 20 amps. Twenty amps or less is acceptable.
