Can a pilot light on propane central heater be converted to an electric starter.
The pilot light uses a lot of propane and I want to replace it with an electric starter for the propane heater. The blower on the central system is electric.

Yes it can be done BUT It is recommended that a factory kit or all listed and labeled factory style parts be used. The reason for this is quite simple as Propane is quite a bit more hazardous than natural gas and in order to be within the UL/CSA/AGA certification for the furnace you are changing the ignition on. Also the conversion from standing pilot to electronic ignition dealing with propane should be done by a HVAC professional on site who really knows what he is doing. If not done properly with the correct parts for propane (gas valve/pilot assembly/spark electrode etc.) your furnace could go BOOM and you do not want to be around when that happens. You also have to consider costs for the parts and labor to properly do the job. Here is a pic of a person who did not do the job correctly. It could have been worse.
