I dated this guy for about 3 years and we broke up about a year ago. But he was my best friends for years before that. I spent everyday with him. I've loved him both as a friend and later as I lover and I have no doubt he did too. We didn't work as a couple though, and we thought it was best to break up. We've drifted apart since and its been so hard. I mean when you spend so much time with someone, its hard to move on without them. He isn't just an ex boyfriend he was my best friend before that and we've tried throughout the past year to be friends but its hard being just friends, and we don't work well as a couple, the thing is its hardest being without him at all. I really don't know what to do... any advice?

It's hard letting go but you seem to have accepted the fact that you didn't work as a couple. You tried being friends but that was too painful. Your only other option is to live your life without him in it. While it hurts to miss someone you probably feel better than trying to be friends with someone you still have feelings for right. Try and allow the logical part of your mind prevail. Write a list of all the reasons you can't be in touch like it would hurt too much to find out about a new girlfriend. You'll find many more reasons you must not be in contact. Plenty of others have done it and so can you. Good luck!
