    Cemeteries
I want to know if it's illegal to walk around public cemeteries at night. Sorry for the short question.

It depends. Is there a gate? Is it closed/locked? Many smaller cemeteries near me are off limits night and are watched by the police to keep out teens and drug users/alcoholics.

Why would you go into a cemetery at night?

I would like to go to the cemetery at night because I just love walks so why not take a midnight walk through my favorite place; the cemetery? I love creepy atmosphere...

Depending on where you are, most municipalities and cemeteries frown on and even ban people, especially young people, wandering around cemeteries at night.

If you think it's creepy, you must be very young.

I actually do not think it's creepy, I just like the atmosphere.

WHAT atmosphere? It's scattered trees and some concrete things to bump into and lots of grass. And dark at night.

It makes me feel like I have the whole world to myself, it gives me a welcoming atmosphere, like no one can see me and no one can hurt me. It's like your own little world.

To answer your question, if the gate is locked, or if there is a sign notifying you that you are not allowed in after a certain hour, then it's probably illegal to do so.

One night my husband (then boyfriend) and I decided to go to the cemetery to visit his fathers grave. It just so happened that my grandfather, and now my grandmother and MIL where also buried there. My Opa's grave was easy to find, my husbands father not so much, especially in the dark. He hadn't been in years, and it became very important to both of us to find the grave site. Didn't help that the markers are all ground level, which meant walking around to read the markers.

After around an hour of wandering aimlessly a security guard approached us. Cemeteries are guarded. He asked what we were doing. We told him, and luckily he believed us, and also called in to the office to find out exactly where my husband's father was located.

But, had we just been wandering around we would have been reported and likely arrested for trespassing.

Why are you obsessed with the dead?

I'm not obsessed with the dead, I just like the cemetery and the paranormal.

Every single question you've asked is about the dead, contacting them, or walking in cemeteries so you can be near them. That's obsession, especially since you want to contact ghosts and spirits so you won't be lonely.

    It's a concern.

It might be a concern, but I only have three topics open right now so it's not that big of a concern, it would be a much bigger concern if I had about 15 topics and at least half of them were about the paranormal, I like the paranormal; big deal? Sorry if I sound weird saying this.

Children at cemeteries [ 4 Answers ]

What are the possible effects of regularly taking children to the cemetery to visit grandparents' (and other relatives) graves from early childhood, with particular focus on a child who is already dealing with anxiety issues? Thank you, Elliot
