    First, its not a good idea to piggyback your question on another thread, especially a 5 year old thread. To avoid confusion your post has been moved to its own thread.

    If a father wants to cede "full custody", legal and physical, to the mother, a lawyer is not necessary. The mother's attorney can draw up the paperwork and the father can sign. Of course he would be well advised to read it very carefully.

    But I'm not sure what you think ceding "full custody" will get. It simply means that the child resides with the mother and the mother can make all decisions with respect to raising the child. It does not relieve the father of the responsibility for child support. It does not eliminate the father having visitation.

    If you are thinking of signing over parental rights, that's a myth. Only a court can terminate rights and courts are very reluctant to do so.

    The bottom line is if you fathered a child, the law will require that you support that child financially.
