Our rottie dog sounds like she has fuild on her lung and we gave her a benadryl tablet. We don't have the money for a vet visit right now. Whatelse can be done?

DO NOT give your dog people medicine!!

Call a local animal shelter to find out the names of low-cost vets in your area, then work something out with the vet. Please do not allow your dog to be sick and suffer. That's animal abuse.

Medicine given to people should never be given to a dog unless discussed with a vet.

The only exception, that I'm aware of, is pedialyte when a dog has severe diarrhea and vomiting. Even then that's only to be given until you can get to a vet, not as an alternative to seeing a vet.

In other words, the only advice we can give you is to get your dog to a vet. If that means selling something to get the money, suspending your internet, selling your computer, working a few extra shifts, borrowing money from family or friends, than so be it. This dog needs vet care, not info on the internet, and definitely not benadryl. :(

Why on earth would you give benedryl to a pet that you think has pneumonia?

First of all, Benedryl is an anti-histamine.. Pneumonia needs an antibiotic-type treatment. And it needs to be a specific antibiotic that can be inhaled.

You really cannot OD a pet on Benedryl. But giving medicines that will do nothing for the symptoms is a waste of money on your part.

This pet needs to go to a vet. Sorry to sound harsh, but if you cannot afford a vet for the bare minimum, you shouldn't own a pet.

Besides all that, how do you know its pneumonia? If it is indeed pneumonia, your pet needs a doctor fast.. this illness is nothing to mess around with. Your dog can die from it, and rather quickly.

Stop being a Google doctor and do the right thing. Would you deny your kids a trip to the doctor if you suspected pneumonia? I highly doubt it. To have a vet look at your pet and tell you what's wrong is not expensive. Tell them you are on a fixed income, most vets will work with you on treatment plans.

Go to the vet. There really is no other option.. and don't start poppin pills down your dogs throat. You don't know what you're giving... Human aspirins are deadly and will kill your pet.. you're lucky Benedryl is relatively safe.
