I installed a new 3-speed ceiling fan switch and now it won't turn off. I have high, medium, low, but then instead of shutting off. It goes back to medium speed. I replaced the wires in the order I removed them: L=Black 1=Grey 2=Brown 3=Purple. No markings on the fan. Help

I had to replace the pull switch on my ceiling fan due to the chain being pulled out.. the original switch has this order.. L-BLACK 1-GRAY 2-BROWN 3-GREEN I've tried 2 different 3 speed switches and have hooked it up the same way as the original,but now I get a HIGH-HIGH-LOW speed no off... anyone...

I turned on the light of my Homestead ceiling fan and the bulb blew and also tripped the breaker. I reset the breaker and replaced the bulb. The bulb lit but now it won't shut off. I replaced the battery in the remote just to see if that would make a difference. What should I try or look to do?
