I have to write about "The Media Effects of Television/whether watching TV is good or bad for people." I'm supposed to persuade the person to believe what I'm writing, so it's an argumentative paper. I have to declare a thesis statement, it doesn't matter where it is in the paper as long as I have one. The professor has been very kind to give me a ton of extensions because this paper was due on January 23rd, 2007. The 2nd paper, "Consumption as Medium of Communication/Consumption as Medium and Mass Media As Engines of Consumption," was due on February 6th, 2007. The 3rd paper, "Parasocial Relationships/Mass Media and Parasocial Relationships," was due on February 26th, 2007. I've had numerous arguments for the 1st paper but it's hard for me to organize my thoughts because of my ADHD. I have tried clustering and it hasn't helped. My professor told me to free-write, and I think it has just made the situation worse - it's given me too many ideas. Every time I think I've found a good argument the argument turns around and bites me in the butt - what I mean by this is that every time I think I have a good argument, with enough sources to do an outline - I don't. Some of my arguments are that TV: Decreases pain, Creates laughter, Exposes you to many things, Has music channels, Can pause or record, Has parental controls, Grabs attention, camera zooms, You can turn it off, Relaxing/engaging at the same time, Takes reading to a higher level, Is real – not candy coated.
