Deliberately remove vent and cap a neighbours soil stack criminal act or not?
After weeks of worry and trying different ways to mask smells We found that our neighbour had secretly removed our soil stack vent and replaced it with a stop end. Although it was admitted to the police no action is being taken because the police say no criminal damage has been done. The person who admits doing this has recently been prosecuted for criminal damage of another kind to our property only because we produced damning CCTV footage. As our property is our home as well as our business the damage to our lives these last six weeks or so is enormous i.e. we moved out of the living quaternary and closed down half the guesthouse until the end of the season thinking that the yard outside would need digging up and major underground plumbing work required. Can anyone suggest or help us in any way to claim compensation from the neighbours business insurance or force the police to act on this person who obviously knows what he is doing.

Criminal tresspass, they had to get to vent on your property

Theft, what happened to the vent cover that was on it.

And I am sure, I would have some clothes or items that would be ususable.

Also if you called and paid for a plumber because of this, that cost.

Go to the shift commander, or capt, if the patrol officer is not doing anything

Compensation is a civil court matter, usually small claims, with a maximum that varies a lot by state. It would be worth the filing fee, even if he never pays.
