I was talking to a friend of mine and we were talking about TV series and the subject of anime came up, I told him I was not a big fan of anime except for the gundam cartoons. There is one specific series I loved so much, but I cannot remember it because I watched them when I was younger. The only thing I can remember about them is that the main character had a brother who was evil and he had a clone of his brother who was good. I also remember him fighting his master or teacher (he was older and had a gray and braided ponytail I think) with an army of gundams with multiple legs. I am sorry for the lack of information but this is all I can remember and I appreciate all answers

Mobile Fighter G Gundam, which was the first Gundam series to occur in it's own alternate continuity not the Universal Century. It is set in a time when a Gundam fighting tournament has replaced war. Space colonies, based on different countries, send a representative to a depopulated Earth to fight in this tournament in Gundams based on that countries or folklore. Domon Kasshu and Rain Mikamura are the team from Neo Tokyo but Domon has an ulterior motive to fighting in the tournament. His father created a nanotech based Gundam called the Dark or Monster Gundam depending on the version you see. His older brother steals it and his father is put into suspended animation for the crime. Along the way he meets and befriends some of the other fighters and his suit is upgraded from Shining Gundam to Burning Gundam or vice versa. He also discovers that his old teacher, Master Asia, one of the Four Ace themed Gundam pilot heroes, has turned evil and allied himself with Domon's brother, who he discovers is more dead than alive and merged with the Dark Gundam.
The heroes fall to Earth and tell Domon his is the new Ace of Spades, replacing his teacher. During the finals of the tournament other allies of the Dark Gundam appear and in the final episode Rain and Domon, who have finally realized they love each other, use the power of love to defeat the titanic Dark Gundam. I may have some of the detail'sband names wrong but it has been years since I've seen the show.
