    Just neutered dog fish smell
    My 1 yr old male lab/pit just neutered yesterday. Picked him up today. It's been about 30 hrs since his surgery. He was napping on his bed when someone came in and it spooked him. Sometimes he pees when he's startled from sleep. Anyway, I smelled dead fish shortly after. Looking for the source I noticed his bed had a wet spot. It smelled like fish. I'm unsure if it is pee or his boy parts oozing. His butt looks fine considering. Not inflamed, red or bleeding. All I can find online about this smell is on females. Is this normal? Can it wait until Monday or do I need to bother the vet after hrs? Sorry if this is a stupid question and thanks to replies in advance!

    Sounds like anal glands. Sometimes dogs will release them when startled. It stinks, but it's nothing to be worried about.

    I agree with Sariss. That's what happens with my dog, too.
