We've adopted a four month labradoodle from breeders a week ago.
Both my husband and I had dogs as children but have little experience with puppies. This puppy is absolutely lovely but seems... extraordinarily placid. So placid Im wondering if he is subdued for some reason. He certainly doesn't seem like a puppy and several people have asked if he is an old dog.
He wanders around very quietly and submits to all the "loving" our children and other visiting toddlers give him without complaint. He doesn't particularly look like he enjoys some of the attention but he never moves away from it either.
Prior to adopting him I did lots of research on the internet about owning a dog. As a family with young children we've made sure he knows where he is in the pecking order by going in and out of doors first and making him sit before he eats dinner. I'm hoping we haven't inadvertently done something wrong! He doesn't appear scared and while his tail is usually down it isn't between his legs.
The only time he makes any noise is when we leave him in his crate, and then he cries (he's usually left for half an hour, and one hour maximum so far). Otherwise he is silent.
He has only jumped up on one person (the child that is scared of dogs naturally!) and otherwise greets new and old people quietly.
If the children aren't interacting with him, he is usually either following me about the house or sleeping at my feet while I work.
Honestly, if he was an older dog I wouldn't think there was a problem but he just seems so quiet for a puppy. One of the reasons we picked a labradoodle was we hoped for a playmate for our children but he doesn't really play or get particularly excited.
We visited the vet the day after we got him home for vaccination and a check. The vet said he was healthy but frankly, he didn't seem to do much of a check.
Any ideas on our placid puppy? Is he just very quiet-tempered or could there be something wrong with him?

I don't think there is anything wrong with your puppy. He is just a lazy puppy.

Not every puppy/dog is the traditional golden retriever, happy-go-lucky kind of dog.

Maybe one think you can talk to your vet about is a Thyroid test. Hypothyroid dogs are typically very lazy and sleepy. Although, very uncommon in younger dogs, its still a possibility.
