I would die if I actually found out what this was. Of what I remember, the animated movie's animation quality was pretty good, so it was most likely a feature film OR TV special. Possible a short TV series but I have no idea!

Anyways, what I remember:
A kid (who I think is from a different time or dimension after being transported by some guy when at a movie theater... I have no idea... ) is in some Spanish or dark looking town. He spots two men following a woman in an alley. The boy shouts to warn her, but the woman was ready and fights them off as they run away. She says something like "I like you kid" and the boy and the woman (who is the swashbuckler-lookin') enter some house.

I can't remember the next part but there is a point where they are friends when suddenly the town is attacked and somehow the boy gets in the hot air balloon (owned by the woman's father). The woman starts thinking that the boy was a spy or something and had instigated this attack on the town/city all along and starts fighting him in balloon.

Again, I forget what happens next, but not much later she realizes he is a friend and someone else is responsible. The woman and boy (and perhaps some others) desperately needed to escape the town by boat. The father is coming along too when they all meet the main villain on the dock. The father tells them to go on while he fights the bad guy. The people get on safely. The father defeats the bad guy and tells him to surrender. The villain says yes and acts injured. When the ship is sailing away (the woman is onboard), and its occupants are waving at the father on the dock, who is also waving back, SUDDENLY, the villain gets up with his sword and (before the daughter of the father can sufficiently warn her father) stabs the father through his back. The father slumps over dead and the villain laughs evilly. The ship's occupants sail away in sorrow.

It's pretty long, but that's all I remember. When I watched this... this 'animated story' it was really amazing to me. I'm surprised I still can't find out what it's called :(
