    How long should I make food available to my diabetic dog before I take it away.

    You could always try cooking food for your dog.

    Look up diets for diabetic people and follow those same guidelines.

    You can also purchase a glucometer for at home to follow the blood sugars. Talk to your vet about how to purchase one, how to read it and when its time for a meal.

    There are always alternatives besides the prescription foods. You just got to do some research.
