I have a current balance of about 1500 dollars in my account, but nothing in my available balance. I've never written any checks and all the transactions I've done have been processed, why else would my bank be holding my money?

Apparently, you deposited a check that has not cleared yet. Once you've been with your bank for a while and once checks from THIS source clears the bank a few times, and after you've written a few checks, they MAY not place a hold on your funds.

But I haven't deposited anything that's the crazy thing about it. From the start my available balance was 3862 dollars, I made a few purchases, paid a couple bills & now I can't touch the rest of my money

Yes, call your bank. They may have a threshold of $1500 or some such for new depositors that you can't go below.
