    Elimination Method
    a.) 3x+1y=17
    b.) 4x-1y=18

    Help?

    OK here goes.
    take a) and solve for x
    put the value for x in b) and solve.
    Solve for y
    Job done.

    Just add the two together. That'll eliminate the y right off.
