Please help. Need to turn off water under sink.
Hi. My kitchen sink has a clog. I tried to use Drano. But it only worked enough to let the water drain very slowly. So I have not used the sink at all. However, now it seems to be clogged again. And like I said, I have not used it at all. The big problem here, is that the washer needs changing, so there's a constant trickle of water flowing. The sink fills within a few hours and I have to then empty it. And when it fills again, I empty it again. It takes about 8 hours for the sink to fill completely. So I believe there is some water draining. Just so slow that the sink eventually fills with the trickling of water. I turned off the water from under the sink. But it only shut off the hot water. There is no other knob there. So I don't understand why the cold water is still running. I can't get a plumber here for a few days, so I need to turn the cold water off. Any idea's on how I can do that? Thanks.

There is one gold knob which I used to turn off the hot water. My friend in another apartment in the same complex told me that the gold knob is the one that turns off both the hot and cold water. But mine only turned off the hot. There are two other knobs, which are both red, and both are connected to the pipes that would be connected to a washing machine. (I don't have a washing machine),, These knobs are turned off, because when I turn them the other way, water comes out of the washing machine pipes. So I don't know how to get the cold water off. There is no other knob.

I live in an apartment building.

The cold water supply line's the one on the right under the cabinet. Where does that line go from the faucet? Back to you, Tom

Thank you so much for answering. I actually took another look under there and found out where it was. So I was coming back online to update when I saw your answer. And that's exactly where I found the cold water knob, on the right side. The reason I didn't see it, is it was hidden between the pipes. The other knob was visible. I found out that there are 2 red knobs, both to the washing machine hook-ups. One for the cold, and one for the hot. Attached to both of these pipes are gold knobs. One for the cold, and one for the hot. I was able to turn off the cold water, finally. What a relief! Now, I don't have to stand guard by the sink to make sure there isn't a flood, while waiting until I can get someone to fix it. Thanks again for being there. It's nice to know that if I need an answer to something, that there are people out there who care like you. Have a great day!

Now let's fix that sink. You have a partial blockage in the pipe in the wall, The solution would be to snake the line.
Dip and sponge the water out of the sink and remove the "J" bend from the trap. Send a snake up into the wall. You'll hit a bend about 8 in but once past that you only have to put our 6 more feet. Reassemble and flush with an sink full of hot water. Good luck, Tom
