    What is a subfloor?
I am building a bathroom in my basement. Do I need to install a subfloor in the bathroom? Or is it okay to tile directly to the concrete floor?

Tiling to the slab floor is okay. If you have already done the drain system, make sure that there are cleanouts and vent stacks to allow all the fixtures to drain proplerly.

A subfloor can be plywood sheets on floor joists, or it can be a bare concrete floor. The subfloor is the base for your finished floor. You can install pressure treated framing for attaching a wood sheeting subfloor if you have the headroom.

It is common to build up a comfortable floor over concrete but the floor furring needs to be pressure treated when in contact with any type of masonry.
