Intellivent thermostat (on StateSelect boiler) does not respond
Hello. Our 50 gal, natural gas, StateSelect boiler, model GS650YBVIT was built on 11/12/08. It has a Intellivent thermostat by WhiteRogers. The thermostat is located at the base of the unit. On top of the unit is what appears to be the control mechanism, a cluster of black boxes one of which is cylindrical, where the On/Off button is located. Very recently, our water purification system, mounted on the wall next to the boiler, spung a leak and sprayed the black box cluster for about fifteen minutes before the leak was discovered and shut off. After the water system was repaired, we noticed we no longer had hot water running from our taps. When checking the boiler thermostat, we noticed the LED indicator lights for "Vacation" mode (the lowest setting) and "Very Hot" (highest setting) are both illuminated. We are unable to adjust the thermostat's setting per following the manufacturer's instructions (the labels on the side of the unit). In other words, when following the instructions, which call for shutting off the unit, re-booting, and then depressing both arrows simultaneously, the thermostat's touch pad still does not respond. We do not believe the thermostat was sprayed by the leaking water. And niether the thermostat nor the black box cluster appear to be water damaged, or even crusty, as a result of the leak. We have not opened any panels/boxes to look for a reset button. Clearly, power is reaching the thermostat. Believe the unit is 120v. We can't imagine this isn't something we can fix ourselves with some very much appreciated advice. Thanks in advance to anyone willing. (Identifying numbers located on side of thermostat are as follows: 184960-000; W-R; 37E73A-303)

    Hi Cazgale

I'm familiar with this system and with the information you presented I can only tell you that it would just be wasting your time if you and me spend the next 2-3 hours typing back and forth trying to figure this out. The fact is that you need to contact technical support over at State water heaters and work through this with the guy directly on the phone... ONLY WAY TO DO THIS!

Of course, this being a holiday weekend stinks for you, but you either call a plumber in that can test all the connections and determine the issue or you wait until state tech. department contacts you (probably on Tuesday). Be clear that even if you have a plumber come out at holiday rates he will probably just tell you that the intellivent thermostat needs to be replaced and he can't get parts until Tuesday or later anyway... *UGH*!

    Contact State at this link:

If you are lucky someone is working and will contact you right away, OK?

You are welcome! By the way, while waiting to resolve the issue I would pop the top off any boxes that may have gotten hit with water... accelerate the drying process now as it may help save the electrical parts, maybe?

    :)
