For several years I have feelings like something very small crawling on my skin and hair but never until today have I found a suspect. I have tried to see if there was anything but almost always if it was there, it can be seen or has moved on. Today I had a feeling and saw what I would term a very tiny flea (I suspect that since we have a cat and German Shepard). Yes I did kill it and must wait until the next time. In fact, during the last 30 minutes I feel like many of the little insects has crawled on me. Since my wife does not get these feelings, I was beginning to think it was just in my head or some damaged nerves from my diabetic neuropathic condition. Now it does not hurt but it does bother me like gnats do in the summer. I hate being figgetive at times and would like to quit slapping mysterious suspected insects. They are much smaller than bed bugs and I never have seen a mite but I have seen some fleas on my animals and they are much smaller than them. What is the best way to determine what they are and how to get rid of them.

I can't imagine you would have a flea infestation for years and nobody else would notice it.

It seems likely that it has more to do with your diabetic condition and how it impacts your nerves. Talk to your doctor about it. And, that sort of thing can be highly suggestible so it can also be psychological. Or it can be a combination of things - you feel something neorologically, or have one little flea bother you and then you start feeling psychologically that your whole body is covered.

In any event, see a doctor.

Yesterday, I was told indirectly by a vet that there are a species of tiny fleas that are difficult to see. The solution? Bathe your dog in Dawn dish detergent twice the first week and once a week after that. That is supposed to kill the tiny fleas and stop the itching. And because fleas prefer dogs to humans, any new fleas will be attracted to the dog and each bath should kill them. Advantage is a great OTC flea medication that will work on all the other type of fleas without harming the animals. If you have tick problems, try Advantix for Dogs. DO NOT PUT ADVANTIX ON CATS!!
