    Chandelier wiring 2 black 2 white 1 red wite
    We tried to put in a new chandelier today but are having difficulty.
    There are two black, two white, and one red wires plus the two copper grounding wires.
    The old chandelier had two separate switches that operated it. One switch had a dimmer/on off for operating the candle part; and a separate switch for turning a spot light on/off that was part of the chandelier.

    One of the black wires is hot (determined by a tester). No matter which way we try we cannot get it to work. If the lights stay on, neither of the switches work, and we can't turn it off.

    Please advise.

    Do the wire's listed include the wire on the light fixture?

    At the switch location confirm that the white wire is connected to both switches and that a black is connected to one switch and the red is connected to the other.

    If that is true, at the ceiling, connect the white wire that is in the same cable with the red and a black, to the black wire that is in the cable with only a white. If you are now only going to use one of the switches, cap the red wire with a wire nut. Connect the remaining black and white wire to the new chandelier.

    Exactly what hkstroud said. Just want to add, if the dimmer has a red wire attached to it, use the red, and cap the black that isn't hot...
