    Can I put a screen over gas furnace intake and exhaust pipes?
    Is it okay to put a screen over high efficiency furnace intake and exhaust pipes?

    Yes, it is commonly done to keep bugs, mice etc from crawling into the pipe. I use 1/8 " galvanized screening. If you have tin snips, cut discs from the screening and epoxy them in. Looks better.
