    Will a home ac compressor run with out freon?
    Will a home ac compressor run without freon? There is a leak in copper pipe. Trying to figure out if compressor needs replaced even after fixing leak.

    Yes it will in most cases BUT it is very bad to do so.

    If you caught the problem soon enough a service person might be able to fix the leak and recharge the unit. It sounds simple but there is a lot more to it than just fixing the leak and a recharge.

    It also depends upon the age of the unit. If it is real old you might be better off just replacing it.
