    What's wrong with my dog?
I have a 8 month old pit. He was put outside yesterday around 12 pm on a tie out leash. When I went to get him inside he was gone. I searched the woods around my house for hours. After about 7 hours of him being missing he showed up at my back door. Im not sure whether he was taken or just got loose himself. But he is really weak, and lazily acting. He will NOT eat and he barely drinks. I don't have the money right now to go to a vet. Any suggestions?

You aren't going to like my two suggestions.

1 - Don't leave a dog outside, unsupervised, particularly "tied out on a leash" when he could be stolen, injured, anything in between. You obviously couldn't see or hear him and have no idea if he was stolen, broke loose, something else. That's irresponsible.

2 - Vet bills are part of responsible dog ownership. If they are sick or injured and you do nothing because you can't afford Vet care you shouldn't have a dog. I trust he's had his shots and hasn't been exposed to rabies or parvo on his "adventure."

Something is obviously wrong. You don't know what and you are doing nothing.

A cat in my area was shot between the eyes with an arrow two days ago at very close range - the cat ultimately died. That's why you need to supervise your animals.

A pit? You're lucky someone isn't using him as dog fighting bait right now.

I do take full responsibility for my dog. But unfortunately I'm low on money at the moment because I'm currently paying my 10 years old daughters funeral considering all that into the problem, it was her dog before she passed. So I do not appreciate the smart remarks.

    - and I don't like giving advice that hurts people; however, as sorry as I am for your loss I am particularly surprised that you treat this dog, your late daughter's pet, so casually.

I did not make "smart remarks." You asked what to do. I made suggestions.

I would suggest that you call a Vet or two, explain why you are financially strapped and see if they will work with you. I'm sure your family and friends would be sympathetic to the plight of your late daughter's dog and will help with the bills if you ask them.

Every single day people post that they don't have money for the Vet but they apparently have computer access because they are here, asking the question. Yes, your situation is the exception.

Again, I am sorry for your loss but that does not change my suggestion that any dog, particularly a pit, should not be tied outside and unattended.
