Penn State was severely punished today - rightly so - by the NCAA.

But is the NCAA culpable? Before the NCAA college sports were just that - college and AMATEUR. Thanks to the NCAA, what was once an amateur enterprise now is a major big-revenue business. I wonder what has been gained as large universities are increasingly co-opted/tainted by the lure of big bucks?

I guess you could make that case in that the predator's actions were known ,and covered up to protect the revenue stream.
The correct action would've been to weed out the corrupt in the University . But do think the penalty is excessive.

1. The student atheletes have 'generously' been offered the option of joining another program that almost certainly has it's roster set ,it's scholarships already distributed ;and in some cases are already doing summer camp workouts.
Perhaps there are a few really gifted players at Penn State who can successfully make the transition ;but not many. Instead ,the majority of the players are being told that through no fault of their own ,they are playing for a school that has no real right to compete.
2. The monetary settlement will be on the back of the students through tuition rates ,and the Pennsylvania taxpayers .
3. The community of University Park will likely be a victim of this decision. Many small businesses in the town will unfairly take a financial hit .

I thought all the punitive actions taken against the Paterno legacy was fair game ;and I think there are higher level administrative board members who should be held accountable . But there are now many more victims of the Sandusky crimes than should be

I can see cleaning house and sending people to jail,and punishment for their actions. But not make victims of those lead astray or knew nothing about this scandal.

As usual the kids suffer the most. That's the shame of it. But I guess that's the price you pay for putting some one on such a pedestal.
