Help with my essay please
In my experience, there are three kinds of drivers in this world, The Erratic Driver, the Over Cautious Driver, and the Alert Driver. There is the Erratic Driver, this type of driver can seem to be fairly unpredictable on the road, with their tailgating and speeding, this person is the most hazardous to themselves and other travelers. Then there is the Over Cautious Driver, who is just as easy to spot as the Erratic Driver. They are normally going under the speed limit or close to it, this type of driver will slow up traffic, and in highly congested areas, they can be a hazard on the road from hesitating and not flowing well with the traffic. Finally, there is the Alert Driver, this type of driving style consists of paying attention to the surroundings, such as weather, potholes, and other traffic.
The first classification of terrible drivers is the obnoxious drivers. These are one of the worst types of drivers to encounter. A majority of these offenders are the Tailgaters. These are the people who like to drive so close to my rear bumper, that I can’t see their front bumper in my rearview. They seem to be in such a hurry that they weave too and fro behind me looking for their moment to pass, even though I am doing the posted speed limit. Another bad habit these drivers have is when they try to pass everyone who is in the left hand lane by speeding in the right hand lane and then trying to cut back into the left lane without their blinker causing drivers in the left hand lane to slam on their brakes so that they don’t hit the offender. This happens to me at least two times a day. Just yesterday while driving on Broadway, I had some smart- kid think that he could pass me in the right hand lane and then try to cut me off before his lane ended. Too bad for him, it didn’t happen. I sped up so that he couldn’t get in my lane and he had to stop and wait for the traffic behind me before he got into the left lane. These people seem to think that they own the road and have every right to do as they please even if it goes against the law. Ironically these people are also the biggest majority of the middle finger throwers. Has a tendency of pissing off other drivers, with their erratic and unpredictable actions. They can be 100 yards behind you one second, and the next second they're so close that you can't read their license plate. They seem to always be in a hurry, whether they actually are in a hurry or not doesn't matter; the erratic driver is not a safe driver. Here's a tip from a recovering lead foot, you can't control other drivers, so pull your foot off the pedal, and you can only affect your share of the road. Driving the speed limits will save you fines, and insurance hikes, and it will help you go with the flow of traffic.
The next types of drivers are The Over Cautious Driver: This type of driver also has the tendency to frustrate other drivers, especially the erratic driver. They seem to always be under the speed limits, even if they are doing the speed limit. This type of driver will always drive slow, even if startled. Driving with caution is not a bad thing, especially while in construction zones, at the scene of an accident, or inclement weather, but to drive like it's the blizzard of '98 on every passage is not kosher. Flowing with traffic has to happen as well as being alert and aware. So if the flow of traffic is 15 m/ph under the speed limit, flow with the traffic, drive with extreme caution, but if the traffic is flowing 5 mph over the speed limit, go with the flow.
The next types of drivers are the Rubberneckers. This type of driver also has the tendency to frustrate other drivers. These people are usually older in age and seem to be driving just below or right exactly at the speed limit. When these drivers encounter anything distracting, especially a car accident or someone stopped on the side of the road by a cop, they immediately slam on the breaks and crane their necks to see what happened. These people in my opinion are too nosey to be on the road. They tend to cause traffic backup, rear-end accidents, and general irritation among the drivers behind them. Just this week I had to slam my brakes on for an elderly lady who decided that the blasting they are doing on the side of Stillwater Ave. was more important than driving her car. She slowed down to about 10 miles per hour and I’m surprised that she didn’t get a kink in her neck from watching the opposite side of the road. Driving with caution is not a bad thing, especially while in construction zones, at the scene of an accident, or inclement weather. Flowing with traffic has to happen as well as being alert and aware. So if the flow of traffic is 15 m/ph under the speed limit, flow with the traffic, drive with extreme caution, but if the traffic is flowing 5 m/ph over the speed limit, go with the flow.
Finally, last type The Alert Driver: This type of driver is normally flowing well with the traffic, and paying close attention to their surroundings. Since they are alert drivers, they pay attention to posted speed limits, and other roadway signs and signals. While going the speed limit, and flowing with the traffic, they have a better chance to avoid accidents caused by others, and assist in preventing accidents by driving defensively but with assertiveness. This type of driver will use hand signals, and gestures to alert other drivers to what move goes next. This is the type of driver that I strive to be, although it is a bumpy road.
There is so much to pay attention to now when I drive my car. Not only do I have to deal with all the construction going on, and watching out for people crossing the road, now there seems to be an outbreak of highly unqualified drivers out there. I try to avoid getting to near to the rear-end of another vehicle on the road for two reasons. There are the Rubberneckers to watch out for and I do not want to be labeled as a Tailgater. As for all those people out there who talk on their cell phones and blast their music while driving, well, I try to keep a sharp eye out for them. They don’t pay attention and I don’t want to be around when they mistake the gas for the break because they are so deep in conversation they forget they are driving. I’ll be leaving for school in a few minutes, and my stress level is rising. I hope I make it there in one piece.
