I want to evict a tenant renting a room in my house
I have rented a room in my house to a single woman in her 40' s at the beginning of June 2012. I felt sorry for her financial situation and agreed to rent to her without a written agreement as she said she would like to pay weekly because this would work best for her.she has since been short on rent several times and just last night was inebriated , cooked herself some food and left my electric frying pan on 370 degrees... I just happened to decide to go see what mess she had made for me to clean as she usually did and that's when I discovered the pan all burnt and still on .I called her from downstairs and them went and knocked on her door, after no response to me I opened her door and there she was sitting on her bed on an inebriated naked stooper eating while greased rom her plate had soaked into the bedding on the bed that I own. I told her she had left the pan on and it as burnt and to come clean her mess as she had also spilled a soda on the floor in the kitchen as well . I was furious! Then she comes downstairs we exchanged some insults she then goes OK back to smoke... I checked on her after my wonderful husband cleaned up her mess and she was falling asleep with a lit cigarette in her hand! After a few attempts to get her to go to bed, I called the police and they told her no
More smoking and to get herself some help for her drug addiction that she admitted to me having pills... Opiates that she was messed up on. I haven't slept at all... Im so worried for our safety. And she still owes rent!! How soon can I evict her here in Mississippi ?

You can check with your local housing court. But to be on the safe side I would give her a written 30 day notice to vacate. If she doesn't vacate within that time then you will need to go to court for an eviction order.

Tell her to move out based on the danger of fire, tell her she can't smoke inside, tell her she can't use your kitchen, put a chain around the fridge, make her want to get out. If she gets drunk enough to pass out, call an ambulance. Find out if you can evict her sooner than 30 days as a lodger rather than a tenant.
