I am having some brown discharge with some cramping. I had a vaginal ultrasound and they couldn't find the fetal pole just the yolk sac. Im 5 weeks 6 days. My hcg level was 15000. I am supposed to have another ultrasound in a week. My doctor said that this is normal. But I'm really nervous. Has anyone else out there had this happen?

I recently went through a miscarriage and I started spotting which in some cases spotting is normal. A few days later bleeding got heavier so I went to the emergency room and they did a transvaginal ultrasound. The doctor came in and said all they saw was a yolk sac. I did some research and there were several cases of doctors saying no fetal pole then a few weeks later everything looks normal. So I thought maybe everything will be okay. The bleeding had stopped while I was there but continued a few days later so I went back and my hcg levels had dropped. For whatever reason the baby did not form which they called "blighted ovum". I was about nine weeks. But with you it could be different I've heard a lot about and even had friends that have had this happen and go back a few weeks later and everything Is fine. I hope the best for you! Just try to keep calm and not stress out about it even though I know how hard it is not to worry. I'd like to hear how your next ultrasound goes!

Thank you for your response. I got a call back from the doctor and my hcg level rose from 15000 to 27000 in less than two days. That seems high to me for how far a long I am. But I guess ill have to wait and see what the ultra sound says
