    Is it possible to still get low folate level whilst taking pregnacare vitamins?
    I was taking pregnacare vitamins but got a blood test in doctors which revealed I had folate levels of only 3.8 . I was prescribed 5mg folic acid immediately as doctor knew I was trying to conceive but turns out I was already 4 weeks pregnant. Now I am worried about neural tube defects but puzzled as I was taking pregnacare.

    Are you positive that pregnacare had folic acid in it? Oddly sometimes prenatals don't have it in them or a low amount, so it's always good to double check. Try not to worry so much, lots of women start with low folic acid in the beginning and make perfectly healthy babies (myself included). Just make sure your doctor checks your next appointment, just in case you have some kind of deficiency. Good luck mama, and congratulations!

    Thank you so much for your reply. Do feel bit better. I also eventually got speaking to dr and she said that the 5mg is very strong and many women don't know they pregnant until later than 4 weeks and all fine so not to worry as you say. Thanks again!
