Water leak in ge profile refrigerator
I have a GE side by side profile fridge/freezer model PSG29NHM. It has a water leak problem to do with the ice maker or water dispenser. I can't see where the water is coming from even when I wheel out the fridge, all I know is that when I turn of the tap on the wall the water the leak stops. There are no water leaks inside the fridge, the water is under the outside of the fridge and seems to be intermittanat. Any ideas of where I can check or any ideas of common faults? I am mechanically minded and have plenty of tools to repair myself if someone can point me in the right direction please, thanks.

Clean it under the unit, first. Unplug it and remove the front kick plate and rear cover and clean it out. You should see a condensate pan. Clean it out and while you are at it wash out the condenser coil, too. When it goes into defrost it could have trash in the drain line that won't let the water go to the drain pan, so wash it out from the inside by removing cover to freezer coil and flushing it with warm water. Make sure the water flows freely into the pan. Here is a manual: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8010163/GE_Profile_Artica.pdf

Thanks for the information and the manual. The water leak only appears when I turn on the water feed from the house which is for the ice maker and water dispenser so Im not sure that the condenser pan will be the problem. Any other ideas about where you think the leak could be before I attack it with a screwdriver?

Check the water valve under the refrigerator. It could very well be on the valve because of a bad or loose fitting. Put some newspaper down under the refrigerator so you can see where the water is coming from before you turn on the water. After you find and fix the leak make sure to clean the coils. Those plastic fittings will leak if they are tightened too much, which is a very common error. You snug up the fitting and tighten about 1/4 turn more, then check for leaks on the plastic fittings. When I am using those fittings I always get some extra ferrules because they are very easy to ruin and you have to replace the ferrule if you over tighten the compression fitting.
