How to start a troy-bilt pony riding mower

I have a troy-bilt pony with a 17.5 B&S motor. When I turn the key the motor will turn over but will not start. Yesterday it started but it took a while for it to fire up. What could be the problem?

Mower starts & runs for 15 or 20 minutes. Or until it gets hot, then it stops until it cools down. I have changed fuel filter,air filter,spark plug,checked gas cap to make sure it wasn't blocked to which none of these were the problem. Any suggestions ?
