Roommate needs to go! Can I tranfer my lease?
I signed a lease with my roommate 2 months ago and I need to get out of here! We spoke about bills and house rules before moving in and he has not paid his share of any of the bills and always pays his part of the rent late. He also has a problem with drinking and perscription drugs. He is drunk EVERY night and has bottles upon bottles of perscription drugs by different doctors for all kinds of things. Every once in a while he gets crazy and starts screaming for no reason. I never planned on living with an alcoholic or a drug abuser and I am a little scared to live here with him.

Is there any way I could transfer my lease to another place so I would not be breaking it? Is there anything I can do to get out of this situation? I wanted to try to do something legally against him but he tells me all the time that his cousin is the chief of police and can get him out of anything... I need help!

I would see if all the pills are in his name if not I would contact a police man and report for having drugs not precrabed to him.

I would contact your landlord, there may be a way of removing him from the lease if his behaviour is threatening or unstable, or likely to cause harm to others. It can't hurt to try. My partner has mental health problems and so takes a bundle of prescription drugs everyday, and to be honest sometimes drinks more than anyone should! But I have never in my life felt threatened by him. You shouldn't have to be worried in your own home, I would definitely speak to your landlord. To be honest, chances are he will be worried about what might happen to his property if your room mate stays living there.
