My dad didn't pay child support for 18 years
For almost 20 years of my life I have not met my father. I live in the state of MN and I do not know if my mom filed for support so that leaves me with two questions...

First is if my mom didn't file for child support am I still able to claim any money?

Second question is how do I go about claiming money if she did file for it, and is there a certain amount of time that I have in order to claim anything?

No... as a child you are not eligible to collect any money... you mother might have been but failed to try... but You yourself are not entitled to it.

Your mom is the one who sued; she is owed the money; she could file to enforce the Judgment or Order.

No, he owes you nothing - you can "claim" nothing.

I'd suggest asking your mother if she ever took your father to Court and if there is a Paternity Order or there was paternity testing.

I always go back to the same thread - someone posted that she was "almost 18" and wanted both a paternity order and support for the months until she turned 18. Made no sense but she persisted and he was tested. He was ordered to pay 2 months of support but it destroyed any possibility of any relationship with her father ever. He also "filled her in" on her mother's life at the time she was conceived. It was heartbreaking. (The father then made certain this person would never, ever inherit from his estate.)

So I would find out the circumstances before you proceed.

I'm not trying to get personal here but my mother, my grandpa, and my grandma walked in on him suffocating us as babies so I don't think I would like to ever be apart of his life.

I have not seen him since and don't plan to make a connection with him. I appreciate your answers though you did answer my questions with another person's life story, I'm sure it was touching but my life story isn't pleasant at all there is nothing I could inherit from him.

I'm glad you found that person's life story to be touching - sorry I wasted your time by not guessing that your father tried to suffocate you ("us") when you were babies. I can't believe I didn't think of that! All I knew was that you hadn't seen him in a very long time.

I have no idea how you intend to collect from him - which, of course, you cannot do - without having contact with him.

I'm sorry your life wasn't "pleasent."

You managed to bite the hand that is trying to feed you without answering the important questions I asked - paternity; support order; where?

He tried to suffocate you (apparently "us," indicating more than one child). This must have been reported to the Police. How long was his sentence? Is that why he didn't pay support?

Do you know where he is now?

I have a twin sister so yes us. We have been told by social security and the authorities that he is no where to be found. He pretty much disappeared on us, you haven't wasted my time I really appreciate everyone's answers.

Then I'm confused how you intended to pursue him for support. I don't know which authorities told you he can't be found... I'm an investigator. Unless he's in witness protection, yes, he can be found.

And my other questions - support order, jail, where?
