    Generator question
I have a 9 kw Diesel 3 cylinder single phase Perkins Marine generator that I put a radiator on to make it a land generator. I have a house in La Paz Mexico (just north of Cabo San Lucas). I built a house there and have three air conditioners that are (2) two tons and a single 5 ton air conditioner. I vbrought down the generator after being frustrated with the sparatic power situation. We are on the grid but the power goes off often. I have my electrician run power directly into the main breaker to my garage where I have a female plug and a large breaker. When I go the main breaker on the street and fire up my generator, all the lights, washing machine and dryer as well as my water pump work just fine. My 2 ton units and 5 ton units don't work. I'm aware the five ton unit will draw too much from the generator and runnning both two ton units will have the same consequences. I tried to run just the single two ton unit and it will not power up. The light on the unit does not illuminate. There is a way to double up the wires that come from my generator to make it 240 volts. I did this and still no A/C power. Does anyone have any recommendations? I am at work at the moment and do not have any technical data in front of me for the generator. Do I need a different phase generator?? Any assitance is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Pete..

    Teich...
We could make a lot of guesses here... why not write back when you have the operating
Voltage and phase for your HVAC and your generator.

A 9kW (11.25kVA) genset should run a 20 to 30 amp, 240V load without a problem so it seems as though there is another issue you haven't realized...

Along with providing more detail on the generator, please provide the nameplate electrical data from the air conditioners.

My emergency portable generator circuit breaker trips (the 220/240v outlet) when I plug the house supply cord into it. I am wondering if the problem could be a less than ideal ground wire or if you can suggest something else to check out. The generator is reasonable new and works well on 120. ...
