    Honda Accord won't rev over 3500 RPM! CEL is on! How do I fix this?
    A year ago my Honda Accord EX 2.2l SOHC VTEC got this problem that it won't rev above 3500 rpm. When I try it feels like it's hitting the rev limiter. The Check Engine Light has been on ever since this happened. The code it gives out is "DTC - 4 errors with CKP sensor". I've been told this has something to do with the distributor. But after replacing it twice the problem is still there.
    This is driving me nuts! Please help me!!

    I only recommend genuine Honda distributor housings--all others are unreliable (i.e. junk). Install your existing ICM and coil in a new genuine Honda distributor housing. Then, your problem should be solved.

    I bought the distributors used. They were both from a Honda Accord approximately the same year model as mine, might have been a few years off. Does that make a difference?

    I have tossed away the old distributor. But can I buy a new distributor from Honda?

    Yes, you can buy a complete distributor or only the distributor housing from Honda. It's cheaper to reuse your old ICM and coil, as long as they are the correct ones. Best to get the exact distributor Honda Part No. for your year Accord and engine. If the distributor cap and rotor have not been changed in 60,000 miles, this is the ideal time to do it.

    P.S. Start using only full synthetic 5W-30 engine oil in your VTEC. It's particularly important in these engines.

    When I get enough money I will probably replace the distributor. This time with a brand new one. A workshop offered me to replace it with a new one for 1000 dollars, that's a lot of money... that's the reason I'm kind of sitting on the fence...

    I've been using semi synthetic 10W-40 engine oil. Could my rev problem be the cause of using the wrong oil? Do I need to change the oil filter before using the oil you recommended?

    10W-40 semi synthetic is really too viscous. It could be affecting VTEC operation. It's best to replace the filter at the same time. Check the price for a new Honda distributor at College Hills Honda:

    Enter your VIN No. for an exact Honda Part No. match. Good prices and service--I use them for OEM parts.

    Buy the distributor and I'll help you install it. Try changing the oil and filter first with full synthetic 5W-30 engine oil (e.g. Mobil 1) and a Purolator PureOne premium filter. Change oil and filter every 6,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. Always change the oil and filter when the engine is hot.

    I've been searching the web for a new distributor, including the site you posted, and I stumbled upon something odd... The Honda mechanic I talked to wanted me to buy a distributor with the part number "30100-P5S-G01" or "30105-P5S-GO1" this would cost me 1000 dollars including repairs. But the strange thing is I can't find this part anywhere. ( Turns out I did find them.     The only distributor part I can find for 97 Honda Accords are the ones like this: DISTRIBUTOR ASSY. (D4T94-03) (HITACHI)

    These distributors have the part number "30100-P0H-A01". Could this mean that I'm driving around with the wrong type of distributor? Would it even fit my car? I'm confused!

    PS: My engine is a F-serie F22Z2 if that makes any difference.

    I'd call College Hills Honda on the phone and verify the Honda part no. you need. It looks like, to me, you need the following Hitachi distributor housing*:

    Product ID : 30105-P0H-A01

    $216.68

    *Keep in mind this does not include the ICM, coil, rotor, or distributor cap, which you can buy aftermarket.
