    Facial abcess on dog
My lab has a facial abcess on cheek and has been draining for about 3 weeks, any ideas on how to help this heal? She doesn't seem in pain and is eating as per usual she's running around as normal. Lm awaiting some paychecks and need to know whether there's anything l can do until l can afford to get to the vets
    Many thanks

I have always been a fan of epsom salts. If you can get a wash basin, warm water and disolve some salts in the water, use a clean wash cloth and try to dampen the sore. THis speeds healing as it disinfects as well as will help dry out the puss and such. Keep a keen eye for infection, green discharge, foul odor etc. Have you been to the vet? Sometimes they will give an anti biotic to help speed up healing as well.

As stated about the only thing you could do at home would be to keep it clean.
I would not let it go much longer, it needs to be tended too by your vet.
Given that it is on his cheek it is possible that it may be a tooth root abscess , that may not be the case I'm just guessing, unless of course if you already know the source of an injury in that area that caused the abscess.
Infected teeth can cause other problems, bacteria getting into the blood stream can affect the heart, so I would get it looked at sooner rather than later just to be on the safe side.

I have a similar problem, my pet had a bee sting, I took her to the hospital, they removed it and she was given antibotic. Well she have had 3 different antibotic and it is still draining. There isn't any swelling. Should there be if it was a tooth? On top of this she has food allergies, so I have been keeping the cone on her head. Any answers? I will try the epsom salt.

For informational purposes this is the tooth that usually causes a problem, but not always.
There may be very little swelling involved but there can also be pretty significant swelling and drainage.
I'm not saying this is what is going on with your pet, but it may be a possibility.
If the place on your dogs face isn't healing after 3 rounds of antibiotics I would say it is time to have it rechecked.
