See your doctor about your vagina. If you are a virgin, maybe your hymen won't break easily. It would be extremely rare to have a too small opening.
Or your husband can use a finger and then two fingers and so on, to explore and see what is what before you go to a doctor, and maybe a flashlight to look. Or you can try a carrot yourself.
From what you say, I can't tell if he hasn't ever been able to get inside you or just part way, or not very often, or what. It's impossible to know if this is related to being able to get pregnant or not. One year is not very long. Fertility doctors are expensive and they usually suggest that you try for more like 2-3 years.
