My ex has skipped town causing an eviction and is refusing to pay.
Ok... this is detailed and is more complicated that any of the similar questions so please bear with me.

My ex worked for a huge residential/commercial company for 5 years as a property manager. For the last 2 years he lived in the penthouse unit of one of the buildings owned by the company. I moved in March of 2012 after we had been dating for roughly 6 months. Very shortly after moving in he was fired from his employment. His boss was told that the reason for my ex's termination was his "performance being under company standards." The company told my ex that he was able to keep his discounted rate and that they would give him a workable payment plan to stay in the clear on the rent. However, after about a week they took that agreement off the table because after an investigation it was concluded that my ex had been stealing from the company for an unknown amount of time. We were immediately given a "3 day pay or vacate." The next morning when we woke up my ex had a mental breakdown of some sort and disappeared. He as since dumped me, changed his phone number, email address, physical address and cut all ties with everyone in his life including myself. The only communication I have had with him is third-party from the landlord telling me that he refuses to pay a penny for anything. I can't have this eviction because I'm not in a position to buy so I must rent. He on the other hand has taken over the mortgage on his parents home so the eviction doesn't affect him as badly. The final bill was $3330.00 because they took the discount off. My question is there has got to be something that can be done considering there is documentation showing his termination, that he has lived there since 2010, and that I have only been on the lease for 1 month. At this point I can't afford that amount of money but also can't have an eviction. What can I do?
