Introducing new puppy to established cat?
    Hello,

I am adopting a 10 week old blue heeler / border collie mix puppy tonight, and bringing her home to where my 1 year old male cat has already been living.

I have been browsing articles for tips at getting them to be friendly with each other, but I have not been able to find any threads here regarding here. Does anyone here have any experience with this and can share some advice?

We will be keeping the cat in a closed room for the first couple of hours while the dog calms after arriving, and then we will try to introduce them from opposite sides of the room. We have a baby gate set up in the doorway to where the cat's litter box and food are so that the dog cannot reach those, and also to provide an "escape route" for the cat to feel safe in.

Are there any tips I should know about? My main concern is that the cat will become angry at the "intruder" and begin peeing around the house. Does this normally happen? How to prevent it if so?

    Thanks in advance!

I have a 5yr old cat who was a feral I have tamed. He loved my 12yr old dog who passed away a month ago and we decided to get a 10wk old puppy last week. We got one of those plug ins--comfort zone for cats. We also got some natural treats for stress. These two things combined have really helped. Before we got these things he pooped in the floor and he wouldn't come down from high places. Now he is walking around and just hissing if the puppy comes too close. Hope this helps!
