    Simple! We need to isolate for one variable and plug it in the other equation.

    lets just take the first equation
    x+y = -4

    lets isolate x
    x = -4 - y

    now plug x value into second equation
    x-y = 2
    (-4 - y) - y = 2

    now solve for y

    once you get y than pick any one of those equations and sub that value into y and solve for x
