    16hp Briggs/vanguard has OHV noises after oil change
    I cut the lawn today(about 1 hour) and then did a complete oil and filter change after letting oil drain out for 30 minutes. Upon start up the engine has rattling noises in the OHV area. Shut off the motor and checked oil level, its Ok. Started engine and let run for 10 seconds still rattling. Several more times for 20 seconds, loosened oil filter while running and oil leaks out. Are the valves air locked?

    Hi,
    I would not think so. You could check your clearance. May just be nerves on your part hearing something that has always been there. What you did and your symptoms do not fit logically together.

There is an excess amount of oil being pushed out of the crankcase breather tube into the air filter housing. The compression is fine and there is no smoke out the exhaust. I am thinking a head gasket is the problem. Anyone have any experience with this problem?
