Qwerty - first it's helpful to use the carat character "^" as shorthand for "to the power of." Hence you are asking about this:

    x^3-3-5x+x^2

Same process as before: replace the -3 by -3x^0 and -5x by -5x^1, and you get:

    x^3 -3x^0-5x^1+x^2

Can you put this in order of ascending powers of x?

    so it would be..
(ascending is from smallest 2 freatest right?)
    x^2+x^3-3x^0-5x^1

but why did u put -5x^1 have a 1 why not a zero..
    and why did u put -3x^0 have 1 0 why not a 1?

Create column with descending numbers corresponding to data in another column. [ 1 Answers ]

I created an alphabetized column with names. In another column I put an x next to those names that were heads of households leaving the rest blank. I would like to create a new column that would recognize the x then insert a number in the cell next to the x in descending order (i.e. 1-50).
