Shed roof to an existing roof
Building roof over deck for enclosed sunroom. Existing roof is a shed type roof and we want to connect to the existing roof rather than to the side of the house because of slope.

To continue the existing roof, u will have to remove the lower part of existing roof to expose the top plate of exterior wall. This will give u the seat u need for new rafters and a smooth transition from old to new. The size of new rafters will be determined by span from inside wall to outside wall of deck.

To keep the new ceiling level the height of inside wall and outside wall must be the same.

To give u a 4'' pitch, cut a wedge from 2'' to zero out of rafter and reverse it. Nail the wedge on top of rafter. If using a 2x12 for rafter this will give u 9 1/2'' at outside wall and 13 1/2'' at inside wall.

If u need the strength of a full 2 x12 then rip a 2x4 to make the wedge. This will give u a 3 1/2'' pitch.

Metal Roof over existing shingle roof ? [ 6 Answers ]

Roll roofing on flat shed roof [ 4 Answers ]

The only option I am finding locally for the roll roofing material has the granules all the way to both edges. I am familiar with the kind that has a 2-inch selvage edge. How does one apply the type where there is no selvage edge? Do I still overlap at the 2-inches from row to row?

I want to extend this porch out another 8 feet and convert the current shed roof to a gable roof. Is there a framing genius lurking here who can tell me how to make it happen? The conceptual image gives an idea of what I'm trying to accomplish with the porch. See attachments. Michael
