WeLL pressure drops sLightly after cut-oFF
Is it normaL for there to be a slight pressure drop (4 PSI) after weLL pumps cuts off at 50 PSI...

The pressure gauge next to my pressure tank was bad, so I went ahead & replaced it, along with a new 30/50 psi pressure switch (including little pipe),, & set the pre-Charge on the pressure tank to 28 PSI

after replacing them both,, I noticed that once the water pressure cut off @ 50 PSI , it would drop down slowly to 46 psi then stop, even though there was no water running,,

then once I did run the water, the pump didn't kick back on unTiL it reached around 26-28 psi,

    I never noticed this before...

I'm guessing the new gauge & pressure switch is good cause it does cut off @ 50 PSI exactly

at first I thought maybe the check value was bad between the ( tank, switch & gauge ) & the weLL head - allowing water to drop back down the well & slowly reducing the pressure to 46 psi, so I replaced to check value with new one also.. but it had no effect on it.

It also wouldn't explain why the pump turns on at at 26-28 psi instead of the 30psi, anyhow

I think the pressure tank is good , there is no water coming out from the air nozzLe & I can't hear any water sloshing around in it when it is drain .

    HeLp... any ideas?

Sounds pretty normal to me. What's the bladder tank charged at> It should be charged at 28 PSI when the breaker's turned off and the pressure bled off by opening a cold water faucet Good luck, Tom

Yes, the bladder tank is charged at 28 PSI when empty,, I've tested for leaks by closing the value in the pic too make sure the pressure drop wasn't from a leak further down steam, but it still reacted the same,

Just seems a little odd, that it would slowly drop 4 psi once the pump shut off at 50psi,

I guess the rush of water when pumping causes the switch to turn off at 50 psi, then the when the water becomes still, the gauge slowly adjusts to the read the actual pressure.

But that doesn't explain why it also is not starting pumpimg again until it got 3 or 4 psi below 30,

But yeah, other than that ,it seem to be functioning normaly,, PSI pressure must not be an exact science, I was worried something strange may be happening inside the tank to the bladder or some kind of air trapped somewhere..

Probably just where the new switch cuts in. It says 30/50 but is cutting in a little below that. I wouldn't worry about it other than to readjust your tank pressure to 24#. You also can dial the pressure up a little on your switch. With the power off, turn the large, center nut on the switch a turn or two clockwise and see if that gets you up to 30. Just be aware that it will also raise the cut off point to a little above 50#. But then you might like the pressure being a little higher.
