    Aging dog won't eat
I have a 17 year old purebred miniature poodle. She has recently quit eating everything. She is almost totally deaf and blind. Tried feeding her ground beef, yogurt, cottage cheese and rice that was suggested by the vet but she quit eating that also. All I want to do is make her comfortable for last days and am trying to find a solution for her to eat something to keep her strength up so she won't die of starvation. Any suggestions please. Thanks

It's a heartbreaking decision to make, but perhaps the time has come to have her euthanized, so she doesn't die in pain or of starvation. Seventeen is ancient for a dog (80-90s for humans).

She very possibly has given up and force feeding her is making things worse.

As painful as it can be - and my dog died of natural causes 2 months ago today - sometimes the ultimate kindness is to let the dog go.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. WG has been there, too.

I would advise you to go to your vet and see if they can find anything treatable. While she is old, she may have a condition that is causing her to do such things and if treated, may buy her more time.

I am sorry you are going through this. It is not an easy place to be.
I would let her quality of life be my guide, if your vet finds something that can be dealt with you may get a bit of time with her yet.
We've all been in your position and we know how that feels.
Let us know how things go for her please, and you.

I feel so bad for you... And for your little friend... Perhaps it is time to let her go, she is a trooper to have lived so long. I know the feeling of helplessness you feel right now my own friend and constant companion german shepherd died of lymphoma, nothing I could do except be there and try to keep him comfortable, warm, and loved. She will only eat if she wants to... Take her to the vet and see what they say.
